Free eyetests for people who use a computer at work.

Was just reading an article in The Independent about saving money on glasses and general eyecare. Apparently, people who use a computer at work are entitled to free eyetests from their employer via the Eyecare voucher scheme, and could be eligible for vouchers for the cost of glasses. People should contact their human resources adviser at work for info.
This is the whole article- http://www.independent.co.uk/money/i...ry-883137.html
This was news to me- hope it's useful.

Your are entitled to free eye tests as part of the DSE (display screen equipment) risk assessment that your employer must do, if you use a display screen for more than 1 hour at a time as part of your normal work. This eye test may or may not provide you with a prescription specifically for using DSE. If you are advised to wear glasses when using a computer by the optician then the company must provide basic (i.e. not attractive) frames and lenses. These glasses will be a specific mid distance prescription and remain the property of the company so you may have to give them back when you leave.
The eye test may be specific to this task so might not provide you with information about whether or not you need glasses for other tasks.
Importantly there is no evidence that using DSE affects your eyesight in anyway, it is important to set up your workstation correctly as you are more likely to suffer muscle strains from an incorrectly positioned chair or desk.0 -
Thanks, browne4573- that's definitely a catch!! You probably end up with the specs they used to give kids at school in the 70's, blue or pink!!!0
