I posted in here at the end of March about my particular financial position. Here is just an update after hearing Martin on Radio 2.
I now have 4 CCJ's and 3 of those have been secured on the house thus equity getting smaller. We have had bailiffs turn up twice and have been sent away. The Financial company dealing with these problems have done nothing to help and when I queried about the debts being put on the house then they said that was the best we could hope for.
My wife was made unemployed in June and still not has a job so its only my income of which £950 per month goes out on the mortgage. No Break at all this year so we are on burn out and the marriage has almost collapsed twice.
A number of things that have broke cannot be replaced or mended the worst being the washing machine so M - IN - LAW's gets borrowed.......car gets a self service with only the basics.
2005 has been the worst year on ecord for us. I am not looking for sympathy etc and we have looked at selling the house but cannot do that until the wife gets a job cos dont fancy paying rent on just my money.
Well thats about it and have been in a negative financial position for 10 years mainly caused by problems left to me by my ex-wife.
Thanks for listening

Have some sympathy anyway, in bucket loads. :grouphug:
Can we do anything to help? Apart from being a place where you can sound out your frustration at debt members of this thread are really good at offering advice on how to spend less on the necessaries. Others are also a dab hand at advising whether a free debt management service, such as CCCS or payplan, would be the best course of action.
Thanks for posting, hold onto your hat they'll be plenty of messages coming ....Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080 -
I don't know your situation so if this has already been said then please ignore it...
You said you'd thought about selling your house but didn't want to rent on just your wage....would you not get housing benefit?
I don't know if there is anyway you can find out how much, if any you'd be entitled to....but its just a thought.
My thoughts are ith you and no matter how tough its been or gets, I hope you manage to hold it all together and keep your chin up :A0 -
Thanks for the replies guys -
Renting would be cheaper but I love the area we are in.
The help / advice I would need is:-
Getting those payments on a lower interest .....at the mo its 7.75%.....credit history shocking but mortgage HAS ALWAYS BEEN PAID ON TIME.........and raising some capital to try and get us back on our feet.
By the way houses in the area we are in take ages to sell cos the prices have gone up ssssssoooooooooo much.
Any other advice would be helpful. Might be able to pop back in here on Sat Night if not have a good weekend and thanks again0 -
You said a few things have broken and you can't replace them - try https://www.freecycle.org
It's a web based communtiy where people give things away to keep them out of landfill - you can post wanted notices too although you are supposed to offer something first. Anyway, you can probably get free replacements for a few things that way.

Well folks its nearly 6 years ago I posted that so sit back for an update.
We put the house on the market in Jan 06 and it sold straight away. We moved out at the end of that March to a rented place 30 miles away. A lot of debts were settled however with us being with Spectrum Financial Services we still had odd creditors taking us to court.
At this time all outstanding are frozen - no interest and we ourselves have paid some off without Spectrum's "Help". We diod get a refund of £50 in 06 due to them overcharging us.
We have put 2 complaints into the Financial Ombudsman against Spectrum and the Lewis Group. Only 4 creditors left totalling about 10k.
I was made redundant in 2010 and luckily got another job within 5 months however I was bullied and harrassed out by June 2011 - Couldnt have them for constuctive dismissal as I hadnt been there long enough and couldnt have them for bullying as I never complained when really I should have done.
We couldnt get Housing Benefit as my wife takes home £1k per month and I have 1 son at home who contributes £300 per month however as my JSA runs out in 6 weeks ( why is it I have paid between £150000 and £250000 in tax and ni in 25 years I only get 6 months jsa?) we are going to have problems.....Is there anything else we could claim for now or be able to claim in 6 weeks or so?.
What makes matters worse is our landlady has not done any repairs on this house - Cooker blown , washing machine blown , Radiator hanging off wall . leakey roof etc so we are paying £695 per month for a dump. My wife cannot get working tax credits as I earnt too much in the last tax year so as from the beginning of december we are going to be in financial straights. Oh Council will not re-home us - we have 2 dogs!!!!.
1200 jobs applied for in 2011 alone with 7 Interviews - keep being told either under/over qualified etc.
Now claiming ppi back from 9 lenders - ok doing through a company ( PPI Claims Today ) and they are a complete shambles. Capital One paid out within 6 weeks and said they have taken it off our debt - we have no debt with them as they put it in the hands of a 3rd party and we paid them off.....just gotta find the paperwork to support this now. MBNA have paid out however cheque got sent to wrong address - PPI Claims today fault!!!.....hopefully being re-issued today and be with us tomorrow - £832.62 which is going to be a help.
7 creditors to go however PPI Claims Today have been dealing with this for 12 weeks now and their ads say that they get settlements in 8 - 12 weeks which is obviously not going to happen.
I checked an "Online Calculator" for the mortgage one and that says we should get 55k - that should be interesting if we do.
2011 has been an annus horriblis and I cannot wait for it to be over - in fact really the last 10 years have so hopefully lady luck should have had her fill of kicking me in the gonads and goes away to annoy someone else.0 -
Just wanted to say hi and bump this up the thread again so wise folk will stop by! Sounds like you've been through the mill over the past few years....maybe time for a new SOA?
I still too new for words of wisdom but others will have plenty I'm sure.
Fingers crossed for luck turning soon,

You can make a claim for WTCs - just get them to do it on an estimate income for this year. You will get rejected because of last years earnings to begin with, but it gets you on the system and then you do a change of circumstances. For a couple your joint annual income has to be a max of around £18K to be eligible, so it does sound like you'll be entitled (I don't know how much you earned during the part of the tax year you did work though). Good luck!0
