Edinburgh commuting advice needed

Options
Moving to Edinburgh at the end of the month:j

Would like to live in the centre (Leith Walk/London Rd area) but working in South Queensferry.

Start time 5pm.

According to Google the trip is 25 minutes but I realise this doesn't take into account rush hour traffic!

How busy is it - whats a realistic travel time?

Thanks in advance

Luke

alternatively, you could get the train from Edinburgh Waverley to Dalmeny, it takes around 15 mins and there's no risk of getting stuck in a traffic jam!

it depends. rush hour traffic out of Edinburgh can vary. at this time of year the traffic is lighter, but come september time it takes much longer to go home. I used to find it was busier too if its raining. And if there is a breakdown on the bridge, it can be gridlock on all the roads around south queensferry within minutes.
It used to take me about an hour to go from west end to dunfermline. havent done it since tolls were abolished so I don't know if that would make a difference or not. that was leaving at 5 though.
for you aiming to be at south queensferry by 5 it might not be too bad.

It's been dug up for months to allow for the Edinburgh Trams utilities works and is in a hell of a mess creating a nightmare for people living in the East End of the city. And the worst thing is that it's going to be continuing for a while. Have a look on the Edinburgh Evening News part of the Scotsman wesbite to see the number of grumbles and gripes about it!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Traffic in Edinburgh is an absolute nightmare and it will take you AGES from leith walk to queensferry. It can take almost an hour to get from the west end to leith walk, never mind queensferry. I would look for digs a lot nearer work ....

I'd live at the west end of the centre of Edinburgh - then you'll avoid the hell that is central Edinburgh currently.
  • i live in the south of the city, tis very nice here and you can avoid the centre of town. Its a nightmare getting through town just now, took me an hour from Haymarket to Newington one night and that was at 6pm.

I was just going to suggest this.

I live in the West End and frequently travel to Fife and South Queensferry on the bus without much in the way of city centre delays.
