Credit card merchant systems for business

I can't find a thread elsewhere so here goes. My site and business uses PayPal but we want to develop a full merchant service. Can anyone recommend from business experience the most cost effective and good merchant card & online service? We are LloydsTSB business customers but they seem very expensive. Thanks.
