I wondered if anyone had any experience negotiating fees with Fitness First. I am absolutely livid with them at the mo. Here's why.
I joined the gym in July 2005 - moved house (still within local area) June 2006, told them my new address. Some time in 2006 they changed the membership cards to snazzy things that open lockers and charged us £10 for this. Apparently they wrote to all members in advance but I never got a letter. Told them again that I had a different address.
Earlier this year they put prices up from £32.50 a month to £36 a month. I didn't get a letter. Queried this with the gym in March, was told they'd send a copy out - I told them (again) that my address had changed. Received no letter. Emailed again in July, took two weeks before I got a response, and still they don't have the correct address for me.
They just put prices up again, to £38 this time. Again, I did not receive a letter. My fiance pays £28 per month at a different Fitness First - another local one that we both use. There's no way I am going to pay £38 per month. I told my gym I was leaving unless they could negotiate a better deal.
They're going to call me back but I just wondered if anyone had ever successfully negotiated a different rate with them? The best I have found, at my fianc!'s Fitness First, was £31 per month but locked in to a 12 month contract.
They are thieves!!!!

they are and they need some mystery shoppers in some of their gyms-well in the N.I. ones anyway. I paid £30/month up until a few months ago but the standard of service had declined0
