Free travel vaccinations.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this, or if this has been posted before.
Free travel vaccinations can be done at most local GP surgeries (ring to check / book an appointment).
More information can be found at http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleid=1071
I have just had my free jabs for Hepatitis A / Polio / Diptheria / tetanus etc.
Although my arms are both quite sore, it's better to be safe than sorry!

As a Travel Health Nurse this is what I love to see - travellers seeking advice and vaccinations before they go!
Most of the standard vaccinations are available on the NHS, but ones such as yellow fever, rabies and Japanese encephalitis have to be paid for.
Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get an appointment with your GP though. If you are at all concerned about the advice you receive (GPs are not doing travel health all the time) there are lots of specialist resources out there.
Thank you - nag over!0 -
Hi guys
We are going on holiday to China next month and are unsure about what vaccinations we need ( I know I should have sorted this out earlier!!)
Can you advise me and also tell me how to get free vaccinations as our Health Centre had told us it will charge us £25 for this service.
Thanks a million

Apologies as I'm not sure this is appropriate for this forum, but have a look at this website for vaccine recommendations - it'http://nathnac.org/ds/map_world.aspx
GP surgeries should provide most vaccines such as hepatitis A, typhoid, polio/tetanus/diphtheria for free. Other vaccines such as rabies you have to pay for. Malaria tablets are not avaialble on the NHS unless you live in certain areas of London.0 -
are the vaccine's free for everyone? i need my tetanus done again and im not going on holiday and i work full time....!!'' it'll take time to restore chaos...'' G W Bush0

Tetanus is part of the UK national vaccination programme and is therefore available to all free of charge via your GP. You should have 3 as a baby, one just before starting school, and a fifth just before leaving school. It's not recommended that you have any more boosters unless you're travelling overseas or have a tetanus-prone cut or injury. Tetanus comes combined with polio and diphtheria.0 -
Thanks for all the info, guys. I have checked with my surgery and the £25 charge is an admin fee, I will have to pay extra for any jabs which they recommend!!!!
I will obviously pay as I do not want to take any risks but this such a rip off. Their argument is that this is not a service provided by the NHS and as such they can charge what they want.
Wonder if I acted irresponsibly, didn't take any precautions and came back with yellow fever or whatever, would they refuse to treat me or is that a service provided by the NHS. Seems like madness to me but I appear to have no choice but to pay up. Anyone else had to fork out like this
Cheers
