Yes please don't feel stupid. Get someone else to do it as you may need to approach a lender again who only uses brokers. Just get them to tell you the costs involved before putting pen to paper.
Hopr completion goes well and this mortgage puts you in a better position.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Are they rebating the commission back to you?
If not then that is utterly discraseful to be charging that amount.0 -
No I've been emailing them and they said that it is "out of their hands"!My LBM - December 2010!

Personally I would expect a broker to either tell you that you needed to write to your lender giving 1 months notice, or do it on your behalf. They are being paid (a silly amount of) money to advise you.
If it was me, I would tell them that I was going to make a formal complaint on this basis unless they rebated the £800. If they don't refund it, then make the complaint.
To the poster who helpfully said 'it's your fault' - No it's not, as I've said, in my opinion it's the brokers fault!0 -
Thank you dwsjarcmcd
I'm gonna go on your advice. I will tell them I'm going to make a formal complaint and see what happens. I'll let you know. Thanks again.
