Feedback: Can't do right for doing wrong...

OK so here's the situation...
I bid, I won. Spotted the postage was £4.99, but the item was a bargain so thought what the hell.
Item arrived promptly and in perfect condition.
I always have a look at the postage label to see what it's cost them to send it (in a taped up carrier bag). Then leave ratings/feedback for the whole transaction accordingly...
So when it cost £2.49 to post and I was charged a fiver, I thought I'd mark them down a little.
The possitive feedback I left was:
Perfect item, great value!! Good comms. Speedy but a little high postage.
Their postage rating was 4.4
This morning I get a snotty message off the seller asking why I felt the need to mention postage in the feedback.
Well I'm sorry, but isn't the whole point of feedback to let the seller and others know what you thought of thier service...?
I'd left positive feedback saying how happy I was with the item, the seller and the speedy postage.
Won't chuffin bother next time...

Sellers that charge double the actual postage need to accept that buyers will now mark the stars accordingly..the fact that you mentioned it in your feedback is quite immaterial.
You saw the charge and you accepted it by bidding, but that doesn't mean you can't agree that it was a bit excessive. I did the same on a T shirt I bought , there was only one seller and they were charging £4.99 for postage on T shirt so I bought it knowing full well it would cost less than £1.80 1st class. So when it came I left very positive feedback, as the T shirt was just what I wanted (blooming expensive though..but hey) and marked the stars down to reflect my experience of the post and packing charge.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have bought many items where I have been very happy with the goods but had to mark down on postage as the seller has charged more than 2 or 3 quid above the postage amount, cost of packing goods and a bit for fees. IE if the postage cost was a pound and the cost charged was 2 pounds or more I would definately mark down.Loving the dtd thread. x0

I do hope you don't chuffin bother next time.
You knew the postage before you bought it, why on earth do you start moaning about it afterwards? Victor Meldrew?
If you had an issue with the postage, then you should not have bought it, but to then still go ahead and buy it and then start complaining is crass.
You got a bargain, you yourself said it.0 -
I recently bought several similar items (small collectables) for someone else. Each of those items had roughly the same post and packing charge however some arrived in tissue paper and bubble wrap and well padded and obviously carefully packed, others arrived merely loose in a brown envelope with parcel tape as the only security..despite all the charges being the same I left stars between 3 (for a truly awful bit of packing) and 5 for the various sellers as i took into account how they were packed as well as the cost.
Those items were mainly charged at £2.50 for post and packing, although the worst packing was co incidentally the highest charge at £2.95 and they arrived charged at between £1.24 and £1.63, and yes a few of the sellers did get 5* from me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So do you believe everybody should automatically get 5* then regardless of postage charge and packing quality? Luckily not everyone thinks like that otherwise we'd get sellers like the one I had recently who thinks an unwrapped item in a reused brown paper envelope with parcel tape across the holes to stop it falling out..is worthy of 5* :rotfl:
The amount we choose to pay and our experience of what we get are two different things. When we fill out the stars it doesn't ask whether the postage charged was as agreed , it asks us to mark our experience of the charges..and are therefore likely to be marked down for those that overinflate their costs to a greater extent.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Like I said, I knew what the postage was and left feedback and ratings to reflect this. so it's hardly being Victor Medrew is it...?!0 -
The eBay page states “Postage and packaging”
Beats me why so many just look at the cost of the stamps and assume they’re entitled to free packaging when they’ve bought an item that clearly states they’re paying for postage and packaging.
It’s always worth looking at the postage and packaging costs before you decide to buy anything.0 -
OP you were right to leave feedback mentioning the high P & P especially as the packaging sounds rough and ready. It's time ebay sellers woke up to the fact that overcharging and sloppy packaging will affect their sales and visibility.0

I just got something which I thought would be a fairly heavy parcel, but actually came as a large letter in a small jiffy for 66p 2nd class - "seller's standard rate". It would have only cost them an extra 12p to send it first class, and they charged me £2, so I didn't give them 5 stars.
If sellers don't like the feedback they've got about their P&P, then they do have the option to do something about it in the future. They can either cream money off P&P and take the lower feedback, or do things properly and get better feedback in return. Their choice!!:www: :: MFi3 ::

Like I said - I knew the postage prices and thought what the hell as I was getting a bargain.
What I'm moaning about is getting a snotty message from the seller asking why I'd mentiopned the postage in the feedback - "Perfect item, great value!! Good comms. Speedy but a little high postage"0
