Old style ideas of things to make

Hi all :hello:
I've been asked to do a church newsletter with some money saving ideas. I thought a section on old style things that can be easlily and more cheaply made rather than buying would be a fun. It will have a mixed readership so i'd like to include a good variety of things.
I'm hoping to ask someone else to do a recipe section, so i'm looking for other pampering, yummy, craft, practical type things. The only things i've come up with so far is making butter from cream, body scrubs, homemade hob nobs and perhaps aromatherapy room sprays.
Please can you lovely peeps :A share some inspiration or point me in the direction of some useful threads.
thank you x

How about bath bombs?
You need 1 part citric acid to 2 or 3 parts bicarbinate of soda. Mix in a bowl and using a water mister, spritz the mixture until it feels like damp sand. It doesn't need much.
Mix in a few drops of essential oil and then mould the bombs. I use a muffin tray. Pack the mix in really hard, then turn out and leave to dry.0 -
In a time when the price of electric and gas is soaring how about draft excluders made to look like a dog, made out of a pretty curtain or even made out of an old trouser leg.
Perhaps you could suggest people could make these for an elderly neighbour to help them out as it seems like there will be a lot of elderly people struggling this year.

Maybe some of the retired folk may like a piece about keeping chickens again, i bet many of them did when they were a kid.

What about simple toys for children.
Can walker. Materials, 2 tin cans open at the bottom end. Wire or string. Hammer. Nail
Punch two holes in the top of each can close to the rim and opposite each other. Thread the wire or string so that is the right height for the child when they are standing on the can. Secure by twisting or tie the ends inside the tin.
The child stands with their feet between the holes, holding the string/wire and walks. Great fun, a bit like stilts - perfect for the hols - and CHEAP!0 -
How about knitting and crocheting with plastic carrier bags to make re-useable bags?
