What bicycle lights do i need to use by law please?

im just a bit confused about what type of Bike lights do i have to buy & fit to a bike please?

as is it illegal for me not to have lights on a bike?.....or is it only illegal at night ect?......
also what type of cheap lights would i need to buy?.

It is only a legal requirement to have lights on your bike when it is dark. This link will give you all the info that you need:

Just 1 quick addition, that site mentions that LED's are illegal and about to be legalised. This has now happened... (IE they are now legal). This is good as:-
a.) they can be cheaper (& use less batteries)
and
b.) the flashing ones are more visible to motorists....
For a range of good quality lights you might take a look at https://www.wiggle.co.uk for some idea's....
