I'm feeling rather proud of myself. Not only am I doing all I can to start generate savings for my wedding next year, but I am also trying to do my bit to stop food wastage. I get so disheartened when I hear of how much food is being thrown away when it could be used up. Next year I will be growing my own tomatoes to help reduce food miles (and gain free food and stress relief), and helping some friends out to change their rampant back garden into a kind of kitchen garden. I'm trying to do my bit where I can.
It occurred to me though that I know a few people in this area that might not know what to do with some of the stuff they buy. Sometimes you look at something in a supermarket, buy it, and then find it later and wonder what on Earth you'll do with it. Tonight, I sent an email to a few friends I know that live nearby and to my mum and sister, and told them I'd a tin of concentrated curry sauce in my cupboard that I didn't think I'd use, along with a bag of gram flour that was nearing it's sell by date. And I gave a couple of suggestions as to what could be done with it. I asked them then if they had anything that they didn't know how to use or didn't think they'd use, and if they were up for it, we could swap.
I don't know if anyone else does this already, or if it belongs somewhere else, but I just wanted to share it with you. You've helped make me feel part of a community, and I thank you for that.
Here's hoping that some tasty recipes and better use of what we have around us can come from this.

Hi frugalswan,
That sounds like a great idea! :T This thread might help you too as it's where people post about something they want to use up and other Old Stylers come up with suggestions: Don't throw food away challenge...

that sounds a fba idea, but i don't really know enough peeps where i live who are similar to my old style ways of cooking. however i often find i buy things planning to use them then i not sure of what to do so i often pass on to my mum, who then tells me what she's cooked and it give me an idea. lol. mum and i are always swapping things and exchanging or giving to each other.0

I've been enjoying having a read of that thread too. I'm hoping it will take off.
