Bank giving out my information

Yesterday I applied for a loan online (I have a fairly good credit rating) with Alliance and Leicester (who I bank with). I haven't heard anything back from them yet however I have been bombarded by calls from all kinds of different financial companies trying to get me a deal and one saying they could write the debts off for me! Of Course I prompty told them where to go. Is a bank allowed to do this? I'm quite shocked and disgusted.

Bottom line, no, Data Protection Act.

    Can you prove this?

Well I have a list of phone numbers and I've now had 2 emails come through so yes I guess I can.
  • Actually yes they can, I had the same thing with A+L and it actually says in the small print it brings up when you do your application that if you are unsucessful they will pass it to an alternative supplier who may be able to help, it even said this in the email they sent me to say they got the application,

Oh dear I too am with said bank, however I always read the small print and as I recall they do state on some agreements that they may "pass on your information to trusted lenders" but this should only be for a loan or credit card deals.
