I read a post where someone - I think Penny Penguin - said she used cloths rather than paper towels.

What I wondered is - how are they kept hygenic. I thought about a hot wash but that costs. Would nappy steriliser or bleach work?

I'd love to know what anyone else does

Sorry if I'm repeating, but didn't have time to read through whole thread :o
A while ago I saw an article where microwaving your damp sponge / cloth would get it hot enough to sterilise it. Now of course it would have to be physically clean, so I rinse, wring then microwave for about 30secs on full power, then chuck in with normal load of washing.
PS I know it won't be "medically" sterile but if I'm daft enough to take cloth out of microwave immediately I scald my fingers, so it DOES get very hot

I'm use a lot of KR after seeing a programme about germs on dishcloths, teatowels etc. After reading this topic I'm going to try using old t-shirts, teatowels etc cut into cloths then do the ice cream tub/bleach method before washing them. My washing machine has no 90 degree button, 60 is the highest one. I'll use that now and again instead of the 40 degree programme that I use. I gave up on the 30 degree one as it didn't clean properly. Spending less on KR will be cancelled out by the hotter wash but some trees will be saved!
