Credit File Help

Hi Guys,

Dont know if im posting this in the right place. But I need some advice. I have just got my credit file with "checkmyfile" and its so confusing. Does anyone know if there is a company that will help you with your credit file to advise you on how to improve it?
Basically there are things on my credit file that i cant remember obtaining and they are going back years, but I believe these are affecting my credit file therefore stopping me from obtaining credit.
I have a Welcome Finance loan which i have kept up to date with but found out recently that i pay £80 in interest and £20 goes to paying the loan off itself. My loan is currently at £2500 so ill be paying this off forever. I tried to get a loan from my bank to pay the welcome loan off so i can pay the whole amount off quicker but dot turned down.

Any help and advice would be great.

Thanks again

    Hi DeeDubya

What exactly is it that's on your credit file that you think is causing problems? Are they old debts that have been paid off, are they showing as defaults?

On your credit file you should also be able to see how many credit checks you've had recently. You can usually have about 3 in a 6 month period before your credit score is affected. Have you considered getting a 0% creditcard that will allow you to do a "super balance transfer"? This would allow you to do a BT to your current account then use the money to pay off the loan in a lump sum. You would need to get an early settlement figure for the loan though as there is usually a charge if paying it off early.

You can get a copy of your credit file from each of the CRA's for only £2 each. I would try to check that the address details etc are all correct and that you are listed on the electoral roll at that address.

Post up a statement of affairs (SOA) and we'll see if there are any savings you can make which may allow you to save money in the mean time.

    Thanks for the reply.

On my experian report it shows a credit card for the value of £317 at my prev address. It says "info locked" and shows this from 2004 to 2006 prev payment have been made and i was behind on most of them. But since 2003 says info locked.

On my call credit report it shows a CL Finance for £339 defaulted since 2007 to present but no prev payment information, just always default.

It also say search activity as no search acivity and that this is a bad thing. I have no idea what this means!?!

It shows my credit score rating as 15% better than uk residents and that basically my credit rating is the poorest you can get!

I have no idea what this means either - i suggest you call up experian and ask them all your quesions. They should be able to answer whatever queries you have and possibly advise on what to do to rectify anything.
