Very Stressed, its offical im broke.

Right to cut a long story short due to a change in circumstance i am now on benefits and broke. I have 7 credit card which before my money situation changed i could pay now how ever i simply cant afford over £200 in minimum payments SO i have been in touch with the cccs and they have advised me to open another bank account(which i have) and sent what i can afford this month to the credit cards( £1 as a token gesture as this is all i can really afford this month) and tell them i am waiting for a telephone appointment with cccs and from now on they will be handeling my finances, what i would like to know is what is going to happen with these cards will they take me to court, will it take forever to pay off these debts or is there a set time limit etc........i tried to organize a lower payment with one of them and i was told i could only do that if i had missed payments for 6-12 months hence why i have contacted cccs, and advice will be greatly recieved.:(

your not alone !! my BF has just started a DMP with CCCS he has 4 credit cards it had got to the point with everything going up in price and less money coming in he just couldnt afford min payments he was making himself ill so i made him contact them what a relief !! we are a bit ahead of you the new bank account with co op is up and running and all direct debits transferred to new account for bills ,we have had a few letters from the credit cards but i have just binned them (so my boyfriend doesnt stress over them he dont need no more !) we also changed phone providers so our telephone number has changed which has meant all the phone calls have stopped ,you could try that its great ! it will take him 9 years to repay his debt but next year as his van loan finishes we are hoping to up the amount we pay to clear it all quicker ! what alearning curve we have had as a family no more credit here !! so dont worry and let the CCCS help you it will be fine honest !! good luck paula x

    Hi maggie,

Well done for tackling it and coming here for support, there are many on here in a similar situation.
Have you got a case number from CCCS? If and when the CC companies phone to hassle you, just repeat the fact that you are now with CCCS and will only deal with them in writing, some companies may attempt to make threats and call you repeatedly but don't worry, stick to your little script above and then hang up! Let CCCS do the negotiating for you.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.

You could try completing a full SOA (statement of accounts) on https://www.makesenseofcards.com which will help you to prioritise any debts -mortgage/rent & council tax always come first.
