I dont get what your problem is, these people have a succesfull property business, like many other people do, and provide rental accomodation for those that need it.

well, they didnt really provide new properties, they just bought existing properties and rented them out to those people who they had priced out of the market after a few years of gains. Any fool could have gotten a mortgage over the last 5-10 years. All you needed was a job and in some cases a deposit (but not always needed) and you could buy a property. In fact, in some cases you didnt even need a proper job, if you bought enough houses with other peoples money you didnt have to work at all - like these two.

They're 2 chancers gambling with other people's money. And if as seems likely, the gamble doesn't pay off, we'll all pick up the bill for it

They're also running a cartel at the expense of those who want a secure home, featured on Watchdog for ignoring their repair obligations as landlords and evict tenants who complain. They're scum.

  • RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

it's not (usually) within my nature to harbour black thoughts about 'successful people', but in this case I'm really willing this couple to fail.

if lonrho was the 'unacceptable face of capitalism' in the 70's, so this despicable couple embody it in the noughties - the manifestation of modern day rachmanism.

but I'm realistic enough to know that they'll walk away from their ruined empire with enough wealth to ensure a comfortable retirement, regardless of what happens next.

no poetic justice here, more the pity.

Will it be hard for people to settle for a comfortable existence after being on the rich list?

From what I have read, I'm guessing that the racehorses may lose them more ££££ than the BTLs.
