Hello everyone,

I'm not really sure where I should be posting this...
It is VERY likely that we will be moving to Gloucestershire within the very near future.
OH will be working in the Tewkesbury area and me probably in Birmingham (I have more flexibility).

I need some input on nice areas to live in in Gloucestershire. Nice villages that we might consider, or towns. Most expensive areas etc.. Any info / input is more than welcome as we have no idea what the different areas are like.
I saw a program recently talking about Bourton-on-the-water, but that is as far as my knowledge of the area goes. Sorry. :o

Also would welcome any sound advice on where NOT to buy or look...

Thank you in advance! We are planning a trip there for mid-August so any comments are more than welcome!

Cheers! Anne

I live in Gloucestershire 2 years ago for a short while. Bourton-on-the-water is a tourist trap and can be very expensive.

Cirencester is really nice but also pricy. Charlton Kings area of Cheltenham is nice and you can use the A436 to get onto the M5.

    Hope this helps

Tewkwsbury is really handy for the M5 and then straight into Birmingham. There is a direct link on thr train as well. Tewkesbury is right on the edge of gloucestershire and there are some really nice villages nearby. worcestershire is slightly cheaper and also has some really nice villages. Cheltenham is a fantastic place for shopping and slightly pricier.

Really depends on what you are looking for. Town, schools.transport etc

Any specific details required. I work just outside Tewkesbury but live about 11 miles away into Worcestershire.

You might want to check the environment agency's flood map before you look seriously in an 'on the water' area ... you have to put in a postcode, but if you put in just the first half it will give you a bit of an idea. Or you can put in a place name.

We tend to call Bourton-on-the-water Bourton UNDER water! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for that Sue sounds like a really useful site.

We are going on a reconnaissance visit next week... Fingers crossed everyting goes according to plan!
