A Quick Credit File Question

Hello there,

My bancrupcy should have dropped off my file on 01/10/2008, I was just wondering how long I should leave it before applying for a good current account. I would like the one with Alliance & Leicster. Obviously I am not going to be daft and do it straight away. I don't know how often credit files are updates for things to drop off.

  • I think you can apply anyway, but i would post this on the banKruptsy board hun, and there are some stickies at the top of the board which can help you better than i can.
    Good luck x

  • Once you are discharged the BR will still stay on your credit file for another 6 years.
There is a thread here about cleaning up your credit file once discharged:

You can apply whenever, but alot of banks are still very likely to turn you down for accounts when newly discharged.

Rainbow's right unfortunatley....the only way to improve things is to check your credit files & make sure things look ok as RB suggests & give it time....some members have been lucky after Bankruptcy upgrading the basic accounts they had after a while...BUT applying for a new current account will be difficult (especially in the current credit crunch...) while the bankruptcy shows on your credit files....is there no way you could approach your current bank & look at an account upgrade with them?....the problem though you'll face is once the BR drops off your files in october in effect you'll have a clean credit history so again it'll make lenders/banks/credit checks nervous

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Thanks for all the replies on this. I don't think once my bancrupcy drops off in October off my credit file that it will be a totally blank credit file as I have a contract mobile phone with t mobile and also a kays catalogue account which I assume report to the credit refrence agencies, all my payments are upto date so I am hoping that my file will be good because of those?
