Buying from America (is it worth it?)

hi i recently bought items from a webb site https://www.sierratrading.com in america my husband is a gamekeeper so good waterproof boots and jackets cost a fortune and the prices on this site are great,for an order costing 249.00 dollers i had to pay £54 to customs the stuff still worked out cheaper but i wonder is there cheaper ways and places to buy this kind of clothing in the uk. cheers

    Yes, but if items get lost in post and you need to claim for a refund the retailer can argue the cost was only $10.

    Not what was asked, I know, but as the tax varies greatly depending on what type of good it is you might find this web page useful when working out whether it is cheaper to buy from abroad.

    I bought 2 pairs of The North Face trail runners, these would have cost me £85 per pair in the UK. I bought 2 pairs and had them shipped 4500 miles plus paying 17.5% VAT and only paid £82.
    So in my experience it's definitely worth it..

  • Try from Canada. The dvds I have got from Canada all seem to have escaped customs charges.

    Hi did you have to pay c.o.d to the courier(ups) i had to pay £54 pounds but just got my credit card statement today and sierria trading have also taken another payment of £39??does this seem right to you?thnaks for the reply
