Trying to help my Dad

25 - 30% of his income would indeed be very generous of your parents, in the circumstances. After all, he stands to lose a home as well. Everyone involved needs to tighten their belts. The cable should be cancelled - if they cannot do without, then Freeview can be set up for about the cost of one month's sky. You say that you're the only one who knows the full extent of the problems - it will probably be difficult persuading your mother and brother to change their ways, if they think the problems are minor.
I'm very glad that you seem to be so much more positive about everything than a few days ago. As poorandindenial posted, "There is no debt problem that doesn't have a solution."
Best wishes

Thanks so much for every ones replies I have a little update, some good some bad.
Natwest have agreed to repay £2,500 in bank charges, to my surprise this is relatively easy to do when you have a letter from the mortgage company stating that if you don't pay £5k NOW we'll start proceedings to repossess your home, we faxed this to them after pleading financial hardship and he got the charges in roughly six weeks of me sending the templates from Martins article. The bad news was the £5k part but he'll get the money from the bank by the end of the month but he's asked me to write a letter to them asking for it sooner if possible.
He's putting off calling cccs even though he knows its his last hope as he thinks they will tell him his only option is bankrupcy (in fact I think they have told him this but can't be sure) as he still isn't earning anywhere near enough to pay the bills. I have made him cut right down on cable and luxuries like that but to top it all off my brother is being made redundant next month and has signed back onto the same employment agency that found him his current job 2 years ago.
I personally think he may have been miss-sold loans and PPI but when I ask him he says he can't remember certain things and appears to be fobbing me off to a certain degree, its impossible for me to do a proper SOA for them as they won't let me get right into the thick of it for them, I feel like I'm sitting back and watching it all fall apart around them helplessly, to be honest.
Thanks guys I'll keep you posted

Oh Wait... The Mortgage :mad:0 -
I've just got the letter from Lloyds stated above as £5k owing (the one he used to get his £2.5k back from Natwest), he didn't tell me this but it actualy says over £18k in arrears O.O;; Lloyds owe him around £2.5k in bank charges too, do you guys think it would be advisable to write to lloyds again (as they appear to be sitting on his case even though we stated hardship in the original claim) and send them a copy of this letter also? he says he owes Lloyds money in o/d ( this account in question is now closed), cc's mortgage arrears so I'm worried that even if they do agree to pay the bank charge claim, they will just offset in debts against whichever debt they like (as total debt clearly outweighs what we're claiming), or do you think they would appreciate the fact he's also £18k in debt with them for his mortgage also, we would be happy if the claim went to the arrears
I'm half confusing myself now, so I hope I got that over correctly!
Thanks
