Welcome to MSE
I'm looking for a digi camera but really want one with a zoom. Got nearly £100 on my advantage card so if i could get one from boots it would be fantastic

....even at this price!
You really need a camera with an Optical zoom, 3X is good.
A "digital zoom" is a bit of manufacturer's hype - it is the equivilent of seeing the image on your Monitor and using the zoom tool to expand the image size -the pixels are increased in size to make the image larger.
Thus a 5.1 MP CCD like this camera uses, when digitally 'zoomed' in is actually only capturing a resolution equivilent to a 1.7 MP camera.

I agree with what Digiteer has said but as the number of pixels increases we are reaching the situation where this becomes less important. If you consider a screen resolution of 1600 x 1200, (as high as you are likely to find) 1.9MP will have sufficient resolution to give a one to one mapping of pixels from camera to screen.
There are other factors to consider such as the amount of light reaching the sensor and hence how the camera will perform in low light conditions.
Advantages of a camera without optical zoom include smaller size and improved battery life.0
