Endowment surrender

Hello Ive recently made the decision to surrender my endowment policy and have sent a letter out to the company which states this. Then ten days later I recieve a letter from them stating that there will be a short delay, because they have sent a direct debit claim to my bank account, and then it will be 10 working days after this before they can prosses my request to surrender. Is this normal in the banking world or is it delaying tactics for more money from my pocket?? Please help !!!!!!!

direct debit requests are often submitted weeks in advance. Although it shouldnt hold up the surrender, it may do if the direct debit date and policy anniversary date (as in date of the month ie. 5th) do not match.
