May I say something about that thread..

....I started that thread about people avoiding debt, the day before yesterday and spent some time yesterday trying to ascertain where it had gone. Now have found out that it was deleted and that a new thread regarding it's deletion was started and has now been locked!
I never saw any of the posts which followed my initial post and can only assume that a heated discussion followed.
I would appreciate the chance to defend the original post as it seems to have been assumed in some quarters that the thread was started purely to cause an argument......this could not be further from the truth. I do not like to see bad feeling anywhere and the point of the thread was to try to stop "debt avoidance" advice being dished out as it is so dis-spiriting to people who are trying to sort out their financial affairs in an "honourable" way.
I realise that we posters do not know each other and that people will judge others by their own standards. I just wish to make it quite clear that there was absolutely NO intention to cause argument or disruption of any kind.
Thank you.

I think most people knew what you were trying to say ceegee. Shame it got deleted because there's nothing wrong with a healthy debate, i'm sure the mods had their reasons though!
I have £16,000 of student debts to pay back and I know a while back people were just declaring themselves bankrupt to get their student loans written off. I was not happy about that because its something I could never do, I would rather get it paid back, I had the benefits of the money, not I have to live with the repayments.

Hope you can get your affairs sorted ASAP

I agree with Morph.
I never thought that you were trying to start an arguement just to make a valid point."This site is addictive!"

These are the facts:
1. The thread was started with the header "This is a risky thing to say, but......"
That would imply that the OP was aware it was a reletively controversial topic to post and indeed it did bring some strong varied views
2. The Debt-Free Wannabe board is not a vent board. We have boards that are designed for this purpose.
3. The response I posted in the second thread (now locked but visible) covered these points and explained the decision we made.
Therefore this issue does not need any further discussion. This was a general decision that was made in our heavy workload to keep the board on track. This matter should now be considered closed and any further questions can be directed to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
Finally, to echo the above point, we do not believe that this topic was in any way started to cause trouble, rather it is a decision that has been made for the overall wellbeing of the forum
