Bought a Dress from Jane Norman and now been reduced in their sale

Hi All

I recently bought my girlfriend a dress in Jane Norman for £45. This was on 10/07/2008 in their knightsbridge store. They now have a half price sale on for which this dress is included. Do i have any rights to get half my purchase refunded or is it just unlucky that i chose to buy the dress just before the sale? I have emailed them and asked their policy and they very vaguely said i could return the dress if it was faulty.

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks Carl

Hi, unfortunately your timing is unlucky - there's no right of refund or money back if things are reduced shortly after you buy. A couple of companies (eg Amazon) have a policy that they do this, but they are few and far between.

    Make sure it's faulty!

    Hi Carl,
I've worked in retail lots, and unfortunately retailers are under no obligation to reduce the price for you. However, I'd advise you to take the dress back with the receipt stating you want a refund and then purchase it back at the discounted price (btw, if tags have been removed, just say that it was the last one in your size and had no tags) I don't see there being any problem.
Don't mention that you want to buy it back until you have the refund cash in your hand, then decide you're a bit mad and want it back (at the discounted price of course  )

Or what I always do is buy the item again in the sale and take it back with the full price receipt... so you get your money back!

I have done this recently in both the M&S and NEXT directory sales...

May not always work - they sometimes mark the tags when items go into the sale!

... not if you order via the internet for M&S and via the directory for NEXT. It works!!

It is just bad luck I'd say and I don't think you have any right to claim a refund, but that said I took a pair of shorts back to New Look last year which I'd paid full price for. The girl gave me my money back (all of it as I had my receipt) but then said that they'd gone half price in the sale if I wanted to buy them back! Seemed strange to me at the time but I guess getting SOME money for an item is better than not selling it at all...

unlucky i think. I asked jane normal their returns policy and its only 2 weeks to get a refund. If you purchase sale stuff its no refunds - exchange only.
