Exact same thing happened to me and I got one of my mums friends to fix it. My graphics card had died, he had to put a new one in.Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

Try a different PSU first, but otherwise theres not a lot else to check....
have you tried putting your graphics card into the dodgy machine, I know you have done the reverse and it worked ok.
Otherwise you could be looking at a fault with the CPU.
I noticed you said you removed the ram, did you try other RAM like the RAM from your PC in it?This signature was previously violated by my wife, that'll learn me to stay perma logged in.
Fortunately, the offending comments have now been removed - my apologies to all who had to read it and laugh at my expense.0 -
The display is completely blank. It shows for a second to say "No signal" but nothing from the pc is visible. Once that message has displayed for a few seconds, the monitor goes into sleep/stand by mode.
I've defintely not plugging it into the wrong socket - there's only one it can go into. Besides, i made sure i was correct to test the video card.
thanks
Try a different monitor. The signal obviously isn't reaching the monitor for some reason, it could be the monitors side. Or the cable.0 -

And if its not this, it looks like the only remaining component is the motherboard. I'm fairly sure a pc should display a post screen with no cpu (Though obviously it wouldn't pass).0 -

Is the machine speaker plugged in? What beeping noises is it making on boot? Does it usually beep once when turned on (most PCs do)?0
-
I think with most boards if the cpu is dead (or improperly seated) you will get a constant beep. As davejr asked, do you get any beeps and is your pc speaker (little tiny speaker usually connected to the board where the connections for the power button etc are) plugged in? If it is and you get no beeps I think its the motherboard.
Having read the thread I think its the motherboard anyway, look at the capacitors on the board (upright standing cylindrical things of varying sizes with silver tops with little crosses scored into them), are the tops of any of them domed upwards? This is an easy to tell sign that your mboard is dead, the crosses etched into the tops make it easier to see that they are blown or not.
Even if no capacitors are gone I still think it's your motherboard, would buy a new one from somewhere that accepts returns on motherboards (be careful, not all places do) and then replace it and see if it remedies the issue. Motherboard faults are often difficult to diagnose.0 -
hey all.
I had the pc in the local repair shop and they tested the final few things i hadn't and they also suspected it was the board, confirming my suspicions.
I contaced the place that sold the pc and it turns out that the board has a 3 year manufacturer warranty so it was sent back to the seller. I've received an email today to say that my item has been posted to me so i presume that they are sending a replacement board.
thanks to all for the advice and pointers.

Hi all
an update on the ongoing fiasco...........
I received a board from the shop i bought the pc from and took it to my local shop.
It turns out the board i was sent was broken and in fact in a worse condition than the faulty one i returned. They claimed to have not sent it like that but with broken ram slots, lots of dust and the box being undamaged it's quite clear that it WAS sent to me damaged.
They subsequently stated that since i hadn't confirmed it was fine within 3 days (even though i had) they couldn't help any further and said i had to contact the manufacturer.
I emailed them to say even assuming i followed their instructions which were against the sale of goods act they would be required to return my faulty board so i could go to ASUS. However i had checked the asus website which states that for mobo warranty repairs i should "contact the reseller". I explained we could do it his way but we'd both end up simply paying postage and then he'd be required to replace it anyway.
I heard nothing for a few days and decided I'd had enough. I emailed stating that if i did not have a positive response in 48 hours (meaning they'd had 7 days since i reported the broken mobo) then I'd have no option but to contact Trading Standards.
Lo and behold i received a reply that day asking me to return the broken mobo to them.
As of now I've returned the broken board to them and am awaiting for another to be delivered.
My local shop will then fit it and hopefully I'll be up and running again.
I'll post another update when i have one.
Thanks!!!
