Black Horse Finance making my blood boil.....

A month ago I became a divorcee, re-mortgaged my house again, paid an extortionate amount of cash to my ex and to solicitors, bah!! As part of the settlement I agreed or volunteered to pay an Argos credit account, and a Black Horse Finance loan that had been taken out to consolidate credit card loans etc, seemed like a good idea at the time!

I contacted Black Horse Finance by phone for a settlement figure to be told I needed to ask in writing before a figure could be given, 'This IS in the terms and conditions of the loan you took out with us.' I was told, so like a good customer I wrote to them shortly afterwards, asking for the settlement figure, and received a phone call two days later from Black Horse asking 'If they had done anything to upset me, if I wasn't happy with the service' etc, so I know they received the letter.

I STILL HAVEN'T HAD A SETTLEMENT FIGURE !! Despite five phone calls, a written request, and promises that 'It has been sent to you' TWICE! Almost a month has passed since asking for this figure, I have had the money in the bank to pay it for a month now. I cancelled the direct debit for the payments, as I was under the mis-guided impression that it would be sorted within a month, and the cheeky so and so's have sent me junk mail asking if I would like another loan!!!
NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!

I cancelled the direct debit for the payments

Not the best idea as they will count it as a missed/late payment which could be put on your credit file.
However it will get their attention....
  • I have an outstanding loan with them which has a PPI. I asked for a Subject Access Record back in July '07; it took until Jan '08 for them to send it and then it was incomplete. When I rang them about this I was shunted between depts and still haven't received the full report (considering posting thread about this)
I have also asked them on 3 occasions for a settlement figures and been told that "it's in the post."
Their behaviour is shocking! They are so arrogant!
I have contacted my union solictor about this. Hopefully they'll take it on.
    Good luck...........cassie

I would be very cautious about the cancelled DD.. if you don't pay then it may be entered on your credit report... even if you are in the right its a lot of hassle.

write to them recorded delivery saying you want a settlement figure within 14 days (mentioning that you have already written) and say if its not provided you will complain to the Financial Ombudsman service.
There is a satutory period within which they must provide it, but I can't find the reference at the moment.
  • This morning I received a letter dated the 21st July telling me that they regularly review customer accounts and that as I have had the loan for a year, now would be a good time to look over my loan etc, etc..... Needless to say, it's just a circular, junk type letter, but it did have the managers name on it.

So, this prompted phone call number six, all hell and fury, and I now, 26 days after originally asking for it, have a settlement figure!!! Cheque written, stamp stuck, and on its way!!! :T

Not sure about the DD though, oops........ Suck it and see
  • I did have a loan with Black Horse, and when asked over the phone they did give me a settlement figure, however im pretty sure they should not have done..

I went in to the Stockport branch, and asked them for a settlement figure (a few months later) and they said i had to do it in writing, so i kicked up a little fuss, and they told me to write a letter there and then, give it to them, and then they would write the settlement figure on a piece of paper, which they did, and i paid it off in full, all £5200 of it..

    Good luck

I would have insisted that the interest be backdated!
  • I've just found the system very simple for paying off a Blackhorse loan. The secret is to phone the number on the letter that comes with the agreement. If you try any other number you may find on the web or go into the bank you'll start getting problems. So I just phoned the telephone number on the agreement letter (0844 824 8888) and you get the same recorded voice as when you do Lloyds telephone banking. You just answer the questions and the recorded voice tells you what and when your last payment was, what amount will settle the bill and the date you must pay it by. Then the voice asks if you want to pay by debit card. It's just like paying any other bill by debit card over the phone. If you say no she asks if you'd like to pay by cheque. She tells you what to write on the cheque and she gives you the address to send it to.

Seeing as the post prior to yours was made almost two years ago I would hope by now BH have contacted him.
