Alliance and Leicester Mortgage Rates

I currently have an A & L mortgage with the fixed rate ending at the end of November. I'm just starting to explore my options and noticed that A & L's rates are particularly uncompetitive at the moment. The easiest option for me would be to switch to another A & L mortgage but not at a rate above 7% for a sub 70% LTV. Abbey's rates also seem quite high as well, is the takeover by Santander having an impact at all?
Have any of the mortgage experts heard of any news from within A & L?
Thanks in anticipation etc etc.

Sub 70% you should not really be looking at over 7% interest rates, even in the current climate
I think you will be far better off looking around, either yourself, or with the help of a whole of market adviser, as you will easily beat rates over 7%
Although just had a look on A&Ls website and saw deals under 7%I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I doubt the take over by Santander will have had time to have an impact just yet abd when it does I would expect it to be pretty positive.
You should be able to get a good deal with sub 70% lending if you're prepared to put the research in or let a broker help you.Happily an ex mortgage broker!0 -
Cheers for the replies, from careful monitoring of these boards (and the comparison websites) I know there are better deals around than 7% for sub 70% LTV. My question was more of a general one regarding what is usually a competitive mortgage provider. I wondered if the takeover or the company's recent troubles was still impacting on their rates when some of the other providers have been lowering their rates.0

As stated above, they do have lower deals under 7%
I cannot see the Santander takeover affecting the day to day running at presentI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
