i have just been given a dvd extolling the virtues of working for/signing freinds and family up to this company (they supply all your gas, electric, phones etc.)
does anyone know anything about this company please? I did a quick search but found nothing much.
a bit of a cheesy video so i'm a bit sceptical and thought i'd ask you lot first.
any advise would be very much welcome thanks!

1derwoman,
Is that the DVD with Paul Daniels?
The utility warehouse (formerly known as telecom plus) is a legitimate business that 'sells' its products and services (gas, electic, phone line + call charges, freephone, mobile phones, and broadband) through a network of independent distributors.
On the plus side: everyone uses their products and services and everyone is p*ssed off by the further increase in energy bills. So presumably it should be easy to sell.
On the downside: it's been going on for a very long time (5+ years) and because of it's model (MLM: multi-level marketing), you could only ever make a good living out of it if you were with them from the start.
I tried my hands at it a couple of years ago and couldn't make it work. I must say that I had another business at the time which didn't allow me to work at T+ full time.
I think that nowadays even people who were in it from the start have moved on to new MLM 'schemes'. I used to see a lot of T+ independent distributors at the weekly networking I went to, but not so much anymore.
If you have the time and are a chatty kind of lady it may be easier for you that it has been for me. The one thing you have to think about is that after you tried to sign up all your friends and family, you will need to go out and sell it to strangers. Do you know enough people to make it work? Are you willing to sell gas + electric to people you meet? Would a 'beauty' MLM scheme be more appropriate or easier to sell?
Hope this helps.

Having said that, I have found a company in a completely different market that pays better and has more advantageous policies and procedures for network marketers. I prefer a company that does not expect me to hold a load of stock, take money or have targets to meet before getting paid. MLM does work if you are prepared to learn the skills required and put enough effort in. Make sure that you are happy recommending and promoting to goods or services your chosen company offers. Make sure that they have free or at least very cheap training. Make sure that you can easily contact your upline for advice or even help if required. A good sponsor will look after you as their success rests partly on your success.
I hope this heps.

DISCUSSIONS THAT WILL BE MOVED/REMOVED
Please do not discuss subjects where you know doing so breaks the t&cs of another company/site. Also, certain topics have caused problems for the site in the past and will either be removed completely or limited to one specific discussion thread. We have no desire to stop you discussing and building the community, but we want to keep this a friendly site. Potentially volatile subjects have no real place on a MoneySaving forum and often only serve to offend. Please help us to help you.
Topics include Mercury Telecom, Sainsbury’s Discount codes, La Redoute, Vertbaudet. While Pinecone Research discussions have previously been removed we would now like to ask that it be discussed only on the official thread linked to from the Boost Your Income article.Ex forum ambassador

UW/Telecom+ discussions are restricted, but not quite as restricted as Night-owl seems to want! Discussions are restricted to one thread.
See MSE Martin's post (#1) in the thread:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=387161This is a special area for the discussion of Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus). Unfortunately, it has become the topic for heated debate in the past and detracted from the main gas & electricity discussions. Therefore I would like to keep in restricted to just this discussion.0
