Platinum Wedding and Engagement Ring

Options
Hi all!

I have a platimun engagement ring, but am having palpitations at the prices of some of the platinum wedding rings!!
my question is, what would happen if i bought a white gold wedding ring - would it damage the platinum one, or would the platinum one damage it? or what about titanium?

TIA!!

my wife has a whitegold wedding ring and a platinum e-ring. and the wedding ring is shaped to fit the shape of the e-ring, and there is no trace of wear on the gold ring. (3 years)

platinum is a harder metal than gold, and may wear the gold, but over several decades rather than short term. over the same period you may find the gold has worn from wearing anyway

I enquired about my wedding ring in a jewellers, I have a 18ct e-ring and the wedding ring I wanted was only 9ct, I had heard one rubs away at the other and they said it wouldn't be a problem. They said it's quite an old-fashioned view that you shouldn't have differing metals for the 2 rings, as nowadays they would take decades (or much longer) to even make a noticeable difference to the rings.

    I wouldn't worry!
  • Isn't titanium a very similar type of metal to platinum but obviously at a fraction of the price? Ive heard other brides buy the titanium to match with the platinum.

Even if you got both rings the same they would still wear down, metal rubbing metal is going to wear down over the years.

Go with the titanium (as its cheaper than white gold I believe) and save some pennies!

I was given a plat engagement ring and we were worried about the cost of wedding rings.
we got a palladium wedding ring which was cheaper and will last as long as platinum.
    We used thebeautifulcompany

Have a look online. They're exactly the same and less than half the price.

My boyfriend and I went to Hatton Garden, worked out which rings we wanted then bought them rings from:-

We're really pleased with them and still have some money in the bank!

    Good luck

I have a platinum E ring and was also having palpitations at the price of w rings. I'd heard palladium was a good alternative, but do you think I could find any anywhere?

Just had a look on that site, and the size I wanted is a bargain at £76!!!

    Thank you Leopardlady :T

We also used the beautiful company and are rings are gorgeous.

We have titanium and diamonds and are really chunky and solid which might not be everyone's cup of tea. We wanted matching rings and something more dainty would just have looked daft on OH. :rotfl:

thank you all for the replies - its great to know that the budget for the rings can be chopped down considerably! i love MSE!!

i had a look on thebeautifulcompany website - saw some lovely rings there, and it great having feedback from people who have bought them already! :D makes it less scary paying a considerable sum of money over the internet!!

the palladium rings looked lovely too - ive never even heard of them before!!
