Personal trainers!

Does anyone else think personal trainers/mentors for people in debt would be a good idea?

I know people obviously do this to get fit (set goals and stuff), to lose weight, all sorts of things!

It's just struck me on the previous post I did, just talking to Ms_London as opposed to a whole load of people, and just accepting one person's advice is often a lot easier.

Anyone think this is a good idea? I have no clue how you'd set it up though.

  • I think it would be good if the CCCS could have branches around the country, so you had a local point of contact and could meet to discuss things face to face.

Great as our counsellor there is, I think they could certainly improve their overall service with something like this. The counsellor could do educational visits to local schools to speak on money management and the vileness at the core of the credit industry (!).

The problem is one of funding I suppose. This sort of one-on-one service would be costly and it would have to be a free service, so someone would have to foot the bill.
  • 8pnoodles, it might work for some people. Like you say it works for people who want to loose weight etc. Knowing that other people have been through the same or a similar situation would be an inspiration!!!!

Tondella, lol no I didn't mean for exercising, I meant for helping people sort their finances out and keeping them on track paying off their debts!

You made me laugh though. :)

Perhaps if we were all more open to friends and family, we could find mentors within our existing groups.

my brother in law was in a large amount of debt but with help from this site, and the fact the whole family was using the site together meant we could collectively money save and keep each other abreast of how we were doing and what new deals were available.

In fact I would say whole site is one huge 'Personal Trainer', it's just a case of making people aware of its existance

I've often thought of this sort of thing as a potential business idea. The trouble is that I don't think it would be viable, for the simple reason that any scrupulous and ethical moneysaver wouldn't start off by CHARGING somebody to tell them where all their unnecessary expenses are, thus becoming a further unnecessary expense to that person :D

It would have to be more of a charitable/voluntary organisation, I suspect...
