Our house needs the walls repointing.
I've asked the neighbours and no-one can recommend a company to do a good job.
Anyone got any recommendations - it's a semi in East Belfast.
How much can I expect to pay?

Jenny,
I recently got a 2 bed semi in East Belfast repointed.
It cost £2000 and took 3 people 4 days. They ground out all the old mortar, which made a huge mess of all the neighbours houses aswell as mine, buit it has to be done.
They then repointed and came back on the final day to clean the brick.
I have lost the builders number unfortunately after an accident with the sea and my phone, but you now have an idea of cost.
I got other quotes, many much cheaper, but you have to make sure they take all the old mortar out, which is the slow messy job that many overlook.0 -
Just curious - why does the old mortar need to come out?0

If you don't rake the old mortar out the new mortar may not have a solid key and will just fall out over time.
If the mortar is solid underneath I guess it's not so important.
A guy down the road got the front of his house repointed for 200 quid, but they just put the new mortar on top of the old crumbling mortar. It looks grand now, but I'm not sure how it will survive a few winters.0
