Credit Reference Check

Hi,

following up on advice given last week, I've applied for a CapitalOne card and a better bank account. I'm still waiting to hear about the account, but I've been turned down for the credit card.

I got a copy of my equifax credit record (one of the companies CapitalOne used) and looking through it it is almost spotless:

I've got three late payments (one month at most) on my Visa card over the last two years, all of them nearly a year ago.

I've got a default for £93 which was settled in full three months after it occured nearly five years ago.

And that is it - everything else is showing up as good. The only obvious thing that I can think of is that I've moved house twice in the last 14 months; can that have such a serious affect on your rating?

And is it worth applying for the Experian report? Will it show any different information to the Equifax one?

Will still have an impact but shouldnt be a total show stopper due to age, amount, and the fact that it is settled, it will however limit you to Sub-prime lenders

Are you registered on the elector roll at the new address, and have you updated all of your accounts to be registered at this address?

Yes both agencies tend to hold different data, not all lenders register with both.
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
  • What is your potential debt? Do you have many credit cards with high limits? Although you may not owe anything on them you have the potential to get into debt. If you do have cards either reduce the credit limit or cancel them completely!
  • Are you registered on the elector roll at the new address, and have you updated all of your accounts to be registered at this address?

Have just tried checking Experian using the free introductory offer and just found that they "cannot locate me" and would like me to send in some more information about my address. This does not sound good... Sent off the electoral roll form a few weeks ago though, so unless it hasn't updated I should be properly listed.

    Thanks,

    Kat

At the moment my debt is £1500 on a £4200 limit card. I paid off another card (£450 on a £600 limit) last week. Will call Halifax and see if they will drop the limit tomorrow.

    Thanks,

Sounds like your not on the roll for 05/06 Experian check this to validate I.D when you make an online application.

so this may well be your problem with the other applications, however all is not lost most banks will follow up with a manual check if they cant locate you on the roll
