National Insurance rebate

Sorry if this has already been posted about but i am lost and not very wise about tax.

I work part time in a local supermarket and now it is the summer i am working alot of overtime in preperation for uni but i have been charged this month £46.06 under National Insurance. I usually earn £220 and dont have to pay normal tax or national insurance.

Is this recliamable as i will not go over the £5000 ( estm) threthold sorry if this is a different pay system as i said im lacking in knowledge.

I would be very greatfull if someone has the answer if it is possible to reclaim and if so how to do this.

Your National insurance is correct and you won't receive any rebate. If you earn over £90pw you have to pay it.

The threshold you are thinking about is for income tax. You are able to earn £5435 (will be £6035 in September) without paying tax. Normally with £220pm you don't earn enough to pay tax. However with the amount you earned this month you are over that amount for this month. Over the coming months as you drop back to your normal monthly wage you will probably get some or even all of it back so by the end of the tax year you will have paid the correct amount.

National Insurance contributions cannot be reclaimed at all.
