Hi
Really really sorry to hear what has happened to you and am really glad to hear that you all got out safely.
However, I feel I must point out to you and anyone else reading that smoke alarms are a must and you must find out why yours didn't go off. Not only could they have saved you and your family's lives but could have saved you alot of the damage caused especially as you are uninsured (I am sure you realise this now so not wanting to sound patronising).
Anyone out there, smoke detectors are only of any use if you test them and don't remove or ensure the batteries are not flat. I am no expert but I believe that if you contact your local fire brigade they will provide non battery operated alarms that last for ten years or pick them up from a local DIY store, times have moved on with smoke detectors, or you can have mains interlinked smoke detectors installed which i do in all my rental properties. Things happen, fires starts quickly, be safe, look at what you have NOW!, not tomorrow or the next day or next week, NOW!
OP, I hope you don't mind, I am not unsympathetic but your post is an opportunity to get this message home to others.0 -
