How to 'edit' a CD?

I'll hold my hand up and admit I know very little about technology, so please don't shout at me if you think my question is stupid.
I have a CD an acquaintance made for me... it's of his voice so there are no copyright issues. Would it be possible to rip, edit (somehow) and burn a new one? I just want to edit off the last few seconds or so.
I'm sure the easiest thing would be to ask him to do a new one, but he did it as a favour and I don't know him terribly well so I'd rather avoid asking him if possible.
TIA

Yes it's perfectly possible. The specifics may depend on how it's burned in the first place, i.e. the sound format used."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I have no idea... would it be possible to tell from the disc?
Before loaner beat me to it I was going to suggest audacity. I'd open the cd drive folder and see what files are there (simply copy them). If it's burned as a normal audio cd then that won't work and you will need a ripping program. You'll probably have one installed (you can always use windows media player, saves having to install and download something else). Then open the file/s in audacity and use it to edit the file (i.e. cut of the last few seconds). Save it and then burning will depend on whether you've already got burning software. You should have if you've already got a CD Rewritable or DVD Rewritable drive."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thank you so much... it makes sense. I've got the ripping and burning software, just didn't know about audacity.
Thanks again↑ Things I wouldn't say to your face

Copy the file to your hard drive, edit that file to what you want.
Then burn it to a new CD.
Free burning software "ImgBurn" just Google for it.0
