Yes I am looking at this also. Hearing some conflicting reports. The money, so they say, seems good and self employed would suit me say for three days a week.
  • Hi
I did consider doing a DEA course to supplement my income whilst doing my degree.
The nearesr course to me was charging £2000 for a 12 week course and another correspondance course wanted £1750.
I decided against it after speaking to a friend who is a DEA and said he has had no work for the last 2 months, he is self employed and sub contracts himself to a company and nothing on either spectrum.

If you are a DEA, you want really to be putting the HIPS together as well, which a reputable course would teach you to do, you can charge anything from £199 upwards for a HIP and energy report on a stand alone basis for someone who would just be interested in their consumption and methods of energy saving, you could probably charge about £75.

Before you do a DEA course have a read of the enrgy saving trust website so you can get a background knowledge of the energy saving methods. Also have a look at how SAP ratings (standard assessment proceedures) are calculated, again so you have an idea and this will be 2 elements of your work as a DEA.

Good luck to both of you

Thanks very much for the reply. I had made a phone call to the company who was advertising the course. I did feel a bit pressurised to have an interview with them. That`s put me off a bit. I have said that I will get back to them to confirm. I am going to take your advice and look carefully at any recourses I can find.

  • THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES. I HAVE SINCE SPOKEN TO AN ESTATE AGENT FRIEND OF MINE AND HE SAYS THAT IT IS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT AS THEY USE ENERGY REPORTS AS A GIVE AWAY TO ATTRACT BUYERS/SELLERS AND SO THEY GET THE REPORT FOR NEXT TO NOTHING FROM THE DEA. SO UNLESS YOU HAVE THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS IT WOULD BE FINANCIALLY UNWISE???????????
  • If you are considering this option seriously, i would consider reading the post below. I am connected with the website, however it is the information provided by others that i would suggest you read. There have been over 100 comments left detailing their experiences.Training as a DEA
