Can I go bankrupt in Scotland
maggirl
I have had a chat with CCCS (I have around 65k of unsecured debt) and the two option they gave me were DMP (which would go on for 50 years!!) or a debt arrangement scheme, but they were a little hesitant about whether I would have enough to do this.....even this would go on for 10 years.
I have a good income (over 30k)
They never suggested bankrupcy as an option, is this a possibility????

The rules are very different in Scotland, I am not very sure but I think one of your creditors has to petition for you.
Here are some links to Scottish debt agencies that will help you
The scottish division of National Debtline http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/scotland/
CCCS also have a version of their site aimed at people in Scotland.
http://www.scottishdebtline.co.uk/
And their is a forum with a sub-section on debt in Scotland here:

www.aib.gov.uk
We have several Scottish members on the board who I am sure will be along soon to help.

If you get 30 K a year I think as tiger feet said you will have to wait for someone to take you to court. You have to be on low income or be receiving certain benifits, working tax credits / Job seekers e.t.c otherwise.
Have you looked into Trust deeds? It is like an IVA. If you have 30 K a year though, depending on your circumstances you are going o have to make a large payment each month to it I would imagine (but you would do that with bankcrupcy anyway)Bankruptcy Supporters Club No.1790
