advice please

sorry i hope this is the right bit i have posted in but i am in need of some advice ,

me and my partner are in a debt management programme where my partner gives them a lump sum of money they take a percentage and give the rest to there creditors we owe , we give them 230 pound per month at the moment which is alot for us as where a young couple with 2 young children , i dont think we signed a contract or anything but i am thinking of canceling this agreement . The only reason we started it cos we didnt want letters arriving at our door and we was sick of the stress but i feel were been ripped off and think i am confident enough now and learned my lesson about money to do it my self . How would i go about this , i have been told just to right letters to my creditors stating the amount we can afford to pay but most of the creditors are now debt collectors so do i write to them and do you think it will be easy to cancel our agreement with the debt management . please any advice would be welcome i think in total we owe around 6000 now we have been in debt management for over 2 years and only paid around to what i work out 2000 pound of the debt

not sure how easy it is to get out of them but try!!!

Lots of free agencies will do the same job for free meaning more of the money you pay out will go towards your debt.

Who is the company you are with as sure someone here will have come accross them.

  • Hi Helly

I think you should start by calling (freephone) national debtline or CCCS who are charities and don't charge anything for DMPs and ask their advice as they are the expert. National Debtline has all the template letters you need to do it yourself too if you decide to do that.

These two are really helpful and both point out that you shouldnt have to pay anything to the company who administers your DMP.

I have spoken to both this week as have just decided to take control of my debts

Keep us posted but do call them asap and get expert advice. Debtline are open til 9 and CCCS til 8.
