Suspension/Disciplinary/New Job Interview

Options
Hi All

Well I have had disciplinary hearing which was dreadful - the managers who interrogated me were very aggressive and basically called me a liar. The meeting ended with them saying they still had more to think about and as I had brought in supporting documents they needed to look at them. I have no idea as to what will happen next as wasnt told but I cant go back and be treated like that again. They have had plenty of time to put case together and by stringing it out it is cruel and unnecessary. My BP has gone through the roof and I cant face them again. I am seeing my doc next Friday so will ask him his advice.

The thing is I have an interview for new job just after next week and obviously I am very pleased about that but I am also stressing about what to tell the interview panel about my current position. Do I tell them the truth and even then I dont know where to start or do I pretend everything is hunky dory and then if they ask my current employers for ref it all comes out then from employers who can just say that I am currently suspended on suspicion of gross misconduct?

if off work due to suspension, no harm going for other jobs, though getting a reference may be a problem, especially if current co. dont know you are looking!

is there any timescale as to when a decision will be made? you could force their hand by saying you've been headhunted, but they just mught say byebye, and you might never know how things turned out, or get oppurtunity to clear your name.

but then, if new job is better money / conditions etc, !!!! em!

You have my utmost sympathy - my hubby is currently in a very similar position, although he is suspended on performance related issues, but I'm sure they could twist things into gross misconduct - they are stringing him along and he is ready to resign - which would put him as guilty in their eyes.
He has applied for several jobs and his dilemma is also what to say at interview, at the moment he is saying that there have been lots of job losses and they are looking for any reason to get rid of more people, which is true but he has no idea what kind of reference he would get - he would get an excellent reference from his last position but is very concerned about his present employer .
After his "informal" hearing today, he is still none the wiser over what is going to happen, he has already been suspended for a week, with absolutely no communication until yesterday when he was summoned to this meeting.
The one person who could have backed him up has since left the company.
His boss has said that investigations will continue and IF there is to be a disciplinary, hubby will hear shortly - talk about being in limbo.
He seriously thinks that his only option is to offer his resignation in exchange for a half decent reference - it's so wrong that one person has the power of destroying my husband's career and potentially his future career too.
Best of luck with the job hunting.

Nope no time scale as to anything - this has taken approx 9 weeks anyway since initial suspension. I am just trying to think in words how I can eloquently explain situation without :

    A) Looking dishonest
    B) Looking like I am slagging off current employer

Basically I want myself to be seen in the best light.

might be worth phoning / writing to ask for an update- i am sure they dont wnt to keep paying someone, if they are not getting your sevices.

might help to restate your skills etc, commitment(?) to the firm, desire to resolve matters quickly.

  • are you in a union? my union rep told me today to wait till i get a firm job offer and then they will negotiate an agreed reference and he seemed quite confident this will all be possible and my case is alleged gross misconduct!

Hi there, i m very sorry to hear of your husbands dilemma. Ive been through 1 disciplinary hearing for a false allegation of making comments against a colleague on the grounds of race which was fabricated by a supposed work colleague and their friend!!!. Ihad a disciplinary hearing and fortunately had a work collegue who confirmed i hadn't said what had been alleged and i received a final written warning which stays on my file for disciplinary reasons for 2 years!!! So i now can't change from my crappy job for that time.

I then had an investigative meeting for going off my designated patrol area to use a toilet!!! for urgent reasons. My union Unite became involved and the matter of using the toilet on Health and Safety reasons was immediately dropped.

All i can say is the politicians and local and central government are all complete !!!!!!!s!! pardon my French and i do sympathise with your husband and family and wish him the best of luck. I hope he doesn't let the !!!!!!!s gring him down.
