argh! Tax - help and advice!

I've just started a temp job where they've put me on base rate tax. This got me thinking about my tax for last year and if I paid too much. I decided to gather my P60's together and do the online checker thing.

I had several jobs last tax year. I am missing P60's for 2 of them (the main two). I was away during April but I know that had they arrived I would have kept them safe. I'm an organised person and know exaclty where I keep things like that.

Where do I stand with this? Can I get them back as I understand that we need them etc?

TIA

First of all, you need to get off basic rate tax. Ask the agency for a form P46 and sign this to say its your only job, they will then put you on emergency code. To get off this, you will need to write to your tax office giving them details of all your employers since 6 April and ask them to issue a code to your employer.
For last year, write to your tax office and give a complete list of all your employers (and periods of JSA claim) from 6/4/07 to 5/4/08 and ask them to check for a refund.
If unsure, ask your agency for the name and address of your tax office.

You'll only get a P60 for any jobs that you were still working at and the end of the tax year. Where you've left during the tax year you get a P45 instead and won't get a P60.

your situation is not entirely clear.... when you say you had several jobs do you mean you had more than one at a time or not.

If you have only one job at a time, its very important that when you change job you give your new employer you P45... then your tax will be correct otherwise they will put you on an emergency code.

If you have more than one job at a time its probably best to call one your main jib and ensure your tax allowance is on that one and make sure you pass the P45 on each time, and then let the other one be taxed at BR... normally this will give the correct result.

You dont need your P60's - just do the list thing which I advised previously.
