Where to buy logs in bulk?

Anyone know where I could buy logs in bulk for burning this winter - Banbridge / Dromore area or within reasonable travelling distance?

Paid £630 for 1000 litres of oil last week, so thinking the coal/log fire is the way to go this winter - have to make the oil last more than the usual 3 months...

I have around 1600 bags from an area i cleared and at least the same again uncut, which isnt a lot of good to you as im not selling. But what we used to do was contact the sawmills and buy the offcuts for next to nothing then cut them ourselves, no idea if they even still do this but filling a trailer and bringing them home then doing the work yourself used to work out at around 40p a bag

hi can you tell me where you get the off cuts from
    thanks
  • If you try your local sawmills e.g. for me it is Diamond's in Coleraine they cut their logs to a certain length for processing and are more than glad to sell the offcuts by the trailer load. If you give your sawmills a call most of them will let you know what days they are cutting.

Only drawback is the offcuts are usuall all around the yard so you have to run around lifting them up!

hi how much is the off cuts a ton and how many bags would be in a ton
    thanks
  • Hi there

The only way to lift them is in a trailer as they have a weighbridge for before and after so work out how much you have stacked. I have no idea how much they are per ton as it is a while since I have bought them due to buying a site with 40 trees that needed felled 2 years ago. Still burning them!!!
