Single corn on the cob

I have been given a single Corn on the Cob, and since there are four of us that isn't particularly helpful. Life's made a bit simpler by the fact that some of us don't actually like the aftermath of eating CotC because of all the bits it leaves between our teeth.
But we all like sweetcorn, so is it possible to scrape the corn OFF the cob, and if it is would I attempt this before or after cooking it?
Need to make a decision soon, it's been sat in my veg box for a week already ...

savvy_sue, just use a knife to carefully slice the corn off the cob, et voila, you have sweetcorn.
Hang on and I'll go see if I can find any other info for you...0 -

Hmm. I'll give it a try, it will leave home soon if we don't eat it! was held back from giving that method a go by the thought that we'd end up with heaps of the middle bit as well, will just have to see!
Thanks!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I think as long as you are careful there shouldn't be too much of the middle bit. Let me know how you get on0

Sorry to have troubled you, it was pretty shrivelled inside its leaves and once I started hacking the kernels off I came to the conclusion that it was going mouldy from the inside out, iykwim! Once you'd hacked the kernels off there was a black residue left behind, and hubby pronounced it dead!
But the courgette of the same vintage seems fine! So we won't starve!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
*ICKY* Ah well at least you know what to do now if you get another corn on the cob and you want to strip it.
No bother at all!!0 -
Ooooops that reminds me I still have 2 corn cobs in the fridge from a couple of weeks ago
They're still wrapped in their outer sheaths so I have no idea what the insides are like yet, but sweetcorn is supposed to be eaten fresh as the sugars turn to starch quite quickly after being harvested
Guess I should take a peek and see if they're still salvagable LOL!
Oh, and yes, I've often seen chefs stripping off the kernels with a knife to use rather than cook them on the cob"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

LOL! even if things are stuck under my nose in the fridge they can still go off by the time I actually decide to use them
I've got nearly a whole tub of mascarpone cheese that I was supposed to turn into ice cream over a week ago and now I think it's on the turn  ... I'd risk it for myself but I won't give anything to the kids that could be a bit dodgy. I'll taste it tomorrow and decide then whether to bin or use"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
