Do You Have Music At The Afternoon Reception?

I am very novicey when it comes to weddings and am totally lost organising mine...however what I wanted to ask you peeps that are more in the know...
Do you have music on in the background when people are eating at the afternoon reception?

I am having a very small registry office wedding (just me, hubby and witnesses) so wont be having music there.
Just the vows and then whipping off to the afternoon reception.
The reception is a seated affair with three courses, speeches and cake cutting...between 20 & 30 peeps will be invited.

If you do have music...what kind of tunes?

many thanks in advance Bams x

    Hi Bamby

It really is up to you whether or not you want music at your reception - I know that when I got married I didnt have any and the reception was fine without it.

If you are eating in the afternoon then you probably wouldnt want rock music blasting out - an acoustic guitar would be fab as the guitarist can pluck away at various tunes both modern and classical.

I have put the music into the hands of one of my bridesmaids.:D They all have little jobs to do for me! lol

I trust them all implicably though so i know they would not let me down or chose something silly. We will have background music piped through the garden for the afternoon but then in the evening(when the party starts) we have about half a dozen dj.s who are guests at the wedding so they will take it in turns mixing up the tunes on the decks. :D

We are having some music during the ceremony and then have a DJ booked for the evening. It hadn't even occurred to me to have any music during the meal and wouldn't want to decide on any more took me weeks to sort out the 4 tracks for the service - lol
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p
  • I'm planning to have a CD, but I don't know what I'm going to put on it yet.

My friend had swing which is a great choice. I don't want to copy though...

OH started making iTunes playlist the day we got engaged! They are all pretty mellow tracks. I've been to a couple of weddings where there has been chillout stuff like Zero 7 and Air playing whilst we ate our meal.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

That's what we did - We spent ages pulling our fave songs together but we didn't even notice it on during the reception as we were just too busy chatting :rotfl:

It all works out good in the end.
If it's not good, it's not the end!

Thank you all. I think I will talk to the venue and ask if they have a CD player - I don't fancy dragging my own around on the day lol.

    Cheers guys x x

glad you've asked this question, i have been thinking exactly the same thing, but i'm still not sure about it, but we do have a lull between the day and the evening, and despite thinking that people will go back and freshen up (we're laying on a coach etc) some reckon they're going to stay which means i'm sure we'll have to find some music somewhere or it'll feel really strange.
