I agree, and they are lovely keepsakes. What about making little Christmas things for the top of the cake? There were some really cute wee santas that you could either stand on their own or put a wee loop on to hang that I thought he might like making. My mum doesn't drink, but still get boozy presents. It all goes in the cakes. Even taking the lid off can get you a driving ban.
I only drink occasionally but am rather heavy handed with trifles and such.
