Question re Form

This is my first post, although I have been looking at the forum for a long time and it has really helped.

Brief history - my OH and I are going BR on Thursday. OH took voluntary redundancy in December (it was either be made redundant or move to France, so there was no choice). We already had very large debts and mistakenly thought that he would be able to get another job quickly. However, we didn't realise how bad the climate really is out there and he has nearly killed himself trying to get a job over the last seven months. We have run out of redundancy money now and so only have my earnings. Will not be able to pay for mortgage, secured loan, credit card debts. All in all, about £250k worth of debt. House will be about £20k negative equity. As we cannot afford to pay mortgage, we are going to hand back keys. We were very stressed and both under the doctor at the moment for it. BR is the only way forward.

We are holding our hands up to making silly financial decisions and burying our heads in the sand for years. We remortgage to consolidate loans two or three times. This only made things worse because we didn't have any money left for day to day living, petrol, food, holidays, and just used credit cards, paying the minimum payment. Can't believe how foolish we were. It was as if we were going along in a daydream and reality has now set in!

Question - Just about to print out the forms. However, in section 13 "Extra Info", there doesn't seem to be any room to put anything. Would it be okay to type this info onto a separate sheet and attach it? Does anyone have any experience of this.

Any help would be appreciated.

yup, I think its limited to three thousand words when doing the forms online, so maybe try and condense things into bullet points ect.

    Hi and welcome

I did this with my forms, I typed out all my debts and how I had accrued them - I was also very stressed before my BR and I found that I couldn't remember even basic stuff never mind what loan I'd had to pay off what credit card and when 10 times over.

Just keep it nice and simple and factual, and keep a copy as it will come in very handy when you have your OR interview.

also what I did was when I got the paperwork from the OR to sign and send back, I included a letter about keeping my car, I kept it off the forms as the Judge had no interesting in things like that, so clear consise why how wheres only, then you can thrash the details out with the OR in writing or during your Interview.

Thank you for all your replies. I think you are right. We will keep it very simple on the form and then leave the explanations for the OR.

This forum has been a life saver for me. I will keep you posted of BR on Thursday and OR interview.

Have you had professional advice from one of the debt charities? You must do this as your petition could be posponed if you haven't.

Welcome to the forum and all the best for Thursday.

The section entitled reasons you can't afford to pay your debts would cover this if you need more space than is given condense it the OR doesn't want a sob story just the facts. I would always advise going to one of the advise agencies first though

I attached an additional sheet with my forms just to give extra detail when needed.

We took advice from the Bankruptcy Advisory Service who were recommended to us and were very good. They were recommended to us by the National Debtline.

Re the forms I think attaching an extra sheet is a good idea so I'll do that.

    Thanks everyone!
