what to do next??

i have been going through the CAB since april trying to sort out my debts (approx £15k) tbh the dont seem to have been doing alot the woman that was dealing with my case only worked one day a week, this morning i recieved a letter from her saying she was leaving at end of july and my case would now be closed?! basically all she has done is wrote them a letter asking for a moratorium of 6 mths, and if i havent heard from them all by end of july write to them again and ask them to put it in writing??! if they refuse offer £1 token payment,
now i dont know what to do next....im conatantly getting phone calls but i was told by CAB to say they had to deal with them not me!
i just dont know what to do now, the reason we asked for 6mths grace was so i could sort my tax credits out as my payments dropped from £180 pw to £60 and when i do my renewal payments will be even less due to an overpayment! just seems like im going round in circles, i want to pay my debts off but just dont know how i can (im selfemployed childminder)

can anyone help me please??

This happens with CAB sometimes they are only as good as the representative you see I experienced pretty much the same and took it on myself to sort things out.

Has your finances improved any or do you need to send out more letters offering a £1 a month.

Also take a look at the national debtline website they have template letters on there and a budget calculator also the telephone support there is excellent.

no my finances havent improved (if anything just got worse as one child i mind is term time only so now £70 a week worse off!)

so do you think i should just offer them all a £1 a month? when cab done my budget sheet i only had £6 a week left (always seem worse off when wrote down anyway!)
been looking at maybe IVA or even bankrupty?? thing is dh doesnt want it to effect his credit scores as these are debts in my name

I would continue to offer a £1 a month for now.

You are married and living together I take it? Is it not possible for your husband to help you out a little more so there is more disposable income for you to go on a DMP? Or are things really tight for both of you?

You could do with speaking to either CCCS, Payplan or National Debtline really if you want to talk about IVA, bankrupcy etc. IVA if you own your own home can mean signing some equity over I believe so probably not what your husband would want.

what is a DMP? how do i do this??
do i have to go through someone else if i want to do iva?? we dont own our home its council house

Martin has an excellent guide on IVA if you search for it at the top of the page I don't know much but I wasn't interested as I didn't what finance companies getting any equity off me!

A DMP is a debt management plan, where you work out what you need to live on, then pay companies what you can afford rather than what they ask. Obviously it does effect your credit history but is the kindest of all the debt solutions.

Companies can do it for you for free CCCS, Payplan, National Debtline and your local CAB. You would probably have to do it jointly though to be the most effective and improve your quality of life. You could ring one of the companies above see what they say then speak to your hsuband. It depends how much you are struggling and how much you have cut back, there does come a point when you cannot live any cheaper and have to look at other options.
