If your son has his NI no and is eligible to leave school he should be able to get a job in most places due to age descrimination legislation. Will not be allowed to work at heights, work shifts or be employed in a situation where he will be selling financial contracts like mobile phone shops. Next used to take from 17 on but has had to change that.

  • Yeah I worked in WHSmith when I was 16...I think alot of high street shops will hire him because they can pay him less than an 18 yr old! Also, he could work in restaurant, I think most hire 16 yr olds.

yes its against the law for an under 18 to sell alcohol but saying that he could sell it if he was supervised by an older person

go and register for the vacancy service at your local Connexions Service. Almost all Connexions services, have a vacancy service where they advertise jobs specially for young people aged 16-19, although some may tend to be full time and permenant, they should be able to give him specalist local advice if his looking for part time work. If he is 16 he will be over the offical school leaving age, so should be able to work anywhere, unless there is a statutory reason (e.g selling alcholo, betting must be aged 18+)

Many retail palces, just advertise in the window. Enrouage him to go to his favourite shops and ask if they are looking.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

    Hi Flat Eric,

Most of the supermarkets and the big high street stores like Boots, WHSmith, Woolworths etc, are good places to try as they recruit 16/17 year olds.
