Ideas for my dad's birthday present please!

help! every year its the same, don't know what to buy dad. Mum has just had her birthday and I bought her 2 books and some flowers, total £45 (too much really). I have budgeted £30 for dad, but obviously don't want his to look less than Mum's (its not deliberate, it was accidental overspend on mum's present because i panicked the books wouldn't reach her in time so got the flowers too!)

So what can I get/do for a 60 year old man? He makes toys for a living, and does talks on toys through the ages but I think he's got all the old fashioned toys he could possibly want, he dotes on their two black labradors, doesn't particularly like music or films, hobbies.... walking the dogs, doing crosswords and puzzles, likes his "traditional pub grub" (no "fancy stuff" :rotfl: )... is quite into "old fashioned" stuff in general like tv programmes on "ye olde days". Not into aftershave/smellies/etc.

I live the other end of the country but am going to try to get down to see him around about his birthday, which is August bank holiday. I was thinking baking a cake (if I can get there to give it to him) would go down really well, but not too sure what else as an actual present per se.

Any MSE style ideas pleeeeease?!

How about a book of walks in britain ... places that are dog friendly, a tennis ball again for the dogs but he would have the enjoyment, some gloves to keep his hands warm in the winter. Maybe a couple of puzzle books, a nice posh pen to him to do his puzzles, or even an electronic sudoku machine? then bake him a nice cake aswell.

Errr can't think of anything else at the minute.

He sounds like a tricky one to buy for! You said he likes puzzles? You can get a 'Sacred Myths and Legends series of puzzles' the first one is Da vinci's sercret. They're all wooden and look slightly like old games. Plus they're in a series so if he likes it, you can get him the second one for christmas.

You could always do a hamper! With fudge, tea/coffee, some biscuits, and a dvd of one of his fave tv shows.

    good luck!
