Not sure about table decorations? How about some pretty table confetti sprinkled over and then some bowls of kiddie sweets - or would your 18yo think this was truly naff? I'd maybe go for confetti on the tables and some party poppers and lot of pretty coloured balloons dotted around the room.

How about decorations based in some way on alcholol, eg empty wine bottles filled with something? Very fitting for a booze fuelled 18th lol!

Or lollypops! again they may find it naff but I know I still enjoy the odd lollypop and I am 26!

Stick the sticks of the lollys into some florist oasis and then put the oasis into a pot of some kind ... maybe?

You could get some wine glasses, pop a glow stick in it and fill with those glass pebbles. You get light without the danger of candles and the glass pebbles look really effective with the light shining through.

I don't know if it's possible for you to get the bits needed (I can never find anything here) but I love this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylDMupH0kDQ&feature=related

She has another video showing how to make the poofs too. I don't know if you could get foam and cut the letters with a craft knife? or that green oasis stuff maybe??

There are other videos on there if you don't like/can't get stuff needed to make this.

Thanks for all your suggestions have decided on wine glasses filled with celebration chocolates and glowsticks stuck in and some party poppers and confetti on the table. Have got two packs of glowsticks and party poppers (40) from poundland along with 8 packs of confetti so £5 for the lot. Thanks again will let you know how it goes.
