Newsflash: Rat deserts sinking ship

How to profit in a property downturn, by Phil Spencer.

http://property.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/property/buying_and_selling/article4349642.ece

Phil's new advice is "rent, don't buy."

Wait a minute...wasn't this the guy who brought us classic one-liners such as "rent is dead money" and, of course, "property prices only ever go up"?

I suspect that the public appetite for 'Property !!!!!!' is fading fast. I expect a lot of those type shows will be having their last season this year.

Hopefully not 'Grand Designs' though. It is a cut above the rest of the dross with more of an accent on design and making a nice home and none on profit.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

Krusty and Phil's programme is often unitentially funny and has never given me one inkling to do what their 'competitors' are doing.

The programme I think is insidious is 'Homes Under The Hammer' - as it is a morning BBC show maybe it's not so widely watched. It makes buying at auction look like a licence to print money!

agreed. HUTH is arguably worse than the krusty n' phil show.

smug, self-satisfied 'property developers' relentlessly selling the auction purchase as a one-way bet, with the occasional minor 'buy' mistake thrown in to give a sense of 'balance'.

    absolute rubbish.

It will be interesting to see what line he pushes on Location x3. If he sticks to the Kirsty line of "buy, buy, buy," how will he be able to reconcile this with his admission that renting makes more financial sense?

    What a 'male chicken'.

Just goes to prove he has nothing but self interest at heart.

I'd be devastated if Grand Designs finished. It's a 'must watch' for me whenever it's on - much my my family's annoyance. Definitely not a 'property !!!!!!' style program.

Losing all the property !!!!!! stuff will give the programme makers an excuse to dish out more reality s.hite. Krusty n Phil will be history in a few months. Stacking the shelves at Lidl. If you see em take a swipe at em.

Property !!!!!! was TV flavour of the month, before that garden makeover and decorating makeover. What now? I suggest frugal money saving programmes or proper DIY because we can't afford tradesman stuff. Any other guesses?
